Dear Educator:
National Bullying Prevention Awareness Week is Oct. 22 - 28, 2006.
Bullying is a serious national problem that results in school absenteeism, mental and physical health problems, poor school performance, and poor self-esteem. It also can lead to school violence.
As an educator, you are in a unique position to participate in this important week and make a difference by using the enclosed materials:
- A lesson plan with resources for teaching children how to handle bullying
- National Bullying Prevention Awareness Week poster to display in your school
- National Bullying Prevention Awareness Week bookmarks to give each student
In addition, we hope you will:
- Promote the use of www.PacerKidsAgainstBullying.org, a bullying prevention Web site for elementary-age children (see Lesson Plan)
- Encourage children to enter the site’s Tell Us Your Story contest
- Use the enclosed articles and the following statement in your printed and electronic communications to adults and children:
Bullying is never okay.
What can you do to stop it?
Find out at
www.PacerKidsAgainstBullying.org.
Thank you for helping to put an end to childhood bullying.
National Bullying Prevention Awareness Week is sponsored by PACER Center's National Center for Bullying Prevention and cosponsored by the National Coalition for Parent Involvement in Education, National Education Association, and the National PTA.
Sincerely,
| Paula Goldberg PACER Executive Director |
Julie Hertzog Bullying Prevention Coordinator |
