United We Stand
Jay is walking down the hall alone. Brad steps out from around a corner and approaches him aggressively.
BRAD: (smacks Jay's books out of his hands, scattering them. He claps his hands loudly by Jay's face, and hisses). Hey! What's wrong with you? Didn't you hear me tell to you to get out of my way?
JAY: (Spreads his hands out in surprise, raises his brows. Because of his hearing disability, his speech isn't clear). Hey! What did you do that for?
BRAD: (mocking Jay's speech) You sound like you got marbles in your mouth. (then, back to his normal speech) What are ya, deaf and stupid? Gimme that thing stuck in your ear.
BRAD grabs for one of Jay's hearing aids.
JAY: (dodging BRAD'S grab and yelling loudly to draw attention). Ice cream! Ice cream! Free ice cream!
BRAD (steps back, looks confused as kids come running) Huh?
SALLY and NICK come up to JAY.
SALLY: Where's the ice cream? I want strawberry!
NICK: I want chocolate!
JAY: Sorry, there's no ice cream. I just needed some help. Brad is pushing me around. He tried to take my hearing aid!
BRAD: Shut up, stupid!
SALLY, JAY, and NICK: This is a little scary! What should we do?
- Give Brad a shove
- Run away
- Stand together and tell Brad to stop
Option C: Stand together and tell Brad to stop is the correct choice
SALLY: (rolling her wheelchair up to BRAD) Stop it, Brad!
JAY: Yeah, back off.
NICK: Leave us alone.
PIP: (an indignant hamster suddenly appears out of SALLY'S pack, shaking a scolding finger at Brad) Squeak!
SALLY: It's not okay to pick on kids just because they're different.
NICK helps JAY pick up his books.
BRAD gives a dismissive gesture and walks away.
JAY: (signing & speaking) Thanks you guys, I just needed some help.
NICK: I still want some ice cream...
